Crafting Confidence
Our Mission
Crafting Confidence is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that teaches arts, crafts, cooking, and other skills for both children and adults. We create a positive learning environment and boost self-esteem by teaching students new and challenging projects.
Cooking
We love teaching cooking skills, and it is our main focus at Crafting Confidence, because knowing how to cook saves you money and helps you eat healthier meals. Our mission moving forward is to provide an accessible cooking education online, especially for those who may not have learned these skills traditionally, or live alone for the first time, either early in their adulthood or after losing a spouse. We believe in the power of online classes to engage, inform, and reach people in the comfort of their homes, so that we can help teach them how to cook in their own kitchen with their tools, and also use the technology to address the current loneliness epidemic.
We also enjoy working with students live online, so we can answer questions or cooking challenges as they come up, such as: Why is my dough sticky? Should I add more water? How do I knead the dough? All the students have to do is show us their dough, etc and we can advise them whether it is perfect, needs to be kneaded more, needs more water, etc.
Most importantly, we make cooking fun, which encourages new students to want to cook more. They know that they can make something delicious for themselves and their loved ones. Nothing says “I care about you” like cooking for yourself or other people!
We are aware that “zoom fatigue” exists. However, we believe our online classes are engaging, fun and informative, and can reach people who prefer to take classes from home, whether it is for health reasons, they are home-bound, shy, lonely, or simply would like to learn how to cook using their own tools and appliances. We love answering questions live during classes and helping people learn how to cook or craft a new skill. We’re all about “crafting confidence!”
Restoring the Sandpiper
Restoring the Sandpiper is a project that involves everything from woodworking to fiberglass as well as working with marine adhesives, epoxies and paints. We inherited a boat project from a friend who had more boats than time to work on all of them. We will post videos of our progress. They may inspire or help you with ideas and methods for your own projects!
